Support a Ward. Empower a community.
PETOOP provides a practical pathway for Diasporans who want to make a direct contribution to their communities through the Adopt Your Ward Initiative.
A Diasporan can be passionate and intentional about supporting civic engagement in his or her Ward. When citizens participate, democracy wins.
Adopt and Support Your Ward
If your family or another Diasporan has already taken up the Wards in your hometown, you can sponsor a Ward in another town, LGA or state.
Diaspora Adopt a Ward
Add your details to the list and tell us the Ward you would like to support.
Six ways to support your Ward.
Build a Local Team
Recommend 2–3 family or community members who can work with PETOOP coordinators on door-to-door voter sensitisation and civic engagement activities.
Support a Local Office
Where necessary, budget for a modest one-room office and support an office worker for an initial period of six months, according to sponsor capacity.
Support the Ward Worker
A recommended monthly stipend may range from approximately ₦25,000–₦50,000, depending on sponsor capacity.
Biweekly reports should show the number of people reached and activities undertaken. There should be verifiable growth in community participation and membership. This is civic volunteer work, not a political salary.Provide a Smartphone
A smartphone, preferably Android, can support:
- Community communication
- Member registration
- Data collection
- Activity reporting
- Coordination with PETOOP
Keep Backup Records
A ledger book should be maintained as a backup for digital records. This provides a physical record of community members and activities where necessary.
Support Community Meetings
Provide snacks and drinks for biweekly community meetings, according to the sponsor's capacity, to strengthen community participation.
